Most people are swimming, if not drowning in a big deep ocean of material desires living only in the physical life with little or zero consideration for the mental and spiritual world. All they want is more, more, more. More money to make more factories, more factories to make more money and again more factories to make more money and it goes on an on and on until they' re dead. Harsh? Well I am not Mother Nature, don' t blame me.
I remember I was reading an article about the popular American self-help advocate Wayne Dyer and he was saying something like: "Where there is peace in more is better? Of course you know the answer, there is no peace in more is better. And if it doesn't bring peace to your life then it is something you want to discard".
Of course you want to be happy, of course you want to live a pain free, blissful life. Who doesn't? But it' s not really that easy, isn't it? We tend to desire things or experiences which we really believe that will bring us more pleasure and decrease our pain, we seek approval from those around us and why? Just think about former president Bush. When he was leading the U.S, he confess he didn't need the approval of UN to wage war... just like he didn't need the American people's approval to become president. Amazing, I know! He isn't really a role model, a good example but I am trying to make a point. You know what' s best for you, you know the difference between good and bad, right and wrong so stop thinking about what others might think and say it is your life in the end. Must you value what others value? How ridiculous.
Have you ever realize that you wish for something really really bad because that is what you want, that will bring you happiness, that is the missing puzzle, you got that and boom, you will forever be happy. Sounds pretty stupid, right? Because it is. You get that something and then what? You don' t know that life it' s all about the journey, no, you don' t even pay attention to that and you live in fear, fear of what the future might bring or maybe in guilt and regret because of what happened in your past. So why not living in the now moment, why not living in the present, this second, this moment because when you' re in the present you do got the choice to create a beautiful and abundant life. Stop and smell the roses
You want more because if you think about it, it' s not really how you thought it will be, it doesn' t feel really that great or you realize that isn' t really what you wished for... Yeah, so go ahead and wish for something else...
Buddha said"desire is the source of all suffering" and how true these words are. What if you had no desires, what if you wished for nothing? It' s not a bad thing. Just think about it, if you are free from desire you can create, you can choose whatever you like. Anything.
Actually, if you convert desire into choice you can create an infinite world of possibilities. Now you can choose what your heart once craved for, but this time you choose not because you feel empty, needy but rather because you feel and you know that you are entitled and it is your right to choose, knowing that you are complete.
Remove your needs to have people, things, money... to make you happy. It is you, you are the only one that can make you happy, like Abraham Lincoln used to say: "People are about as happy as they make up their minds to be", you don' t need them because if you need them, what will happen when they will be gone, because you do know that nothing lasts forever, don' t you? Enjoy the presence of those you love and care about, enjoy their presence in your life, enjoy those beautiful moments, those beautiful places, those beautiful faces, those beautiful everything and be detached, accept the idea that you can be happy with or without them and only then you will find your true and pure happiness. When you will be content, to be simply yourself and don't compare or compete, everybody will respect you, so go ahead, be yourself, BE YOU!
The ideas I stand for are not mine. I borrowed them from Socrates. I swiped them from Zig Ziglar, Stephen Covey. I stole them from Confucius, Buddha, Lao Tzu, Jesus. And I put them in a blog. If you don't like their rules, whose would you use?
